Battery 'padding' to fit Tenere?

Hello all,
This is a new area to me, but I'm keen to learn. As always, apologies if it's a stupid question.

I've been sold a 'Tenere' fitting battery that, well, doesn't exactly fit. The top notch is too large for the standard Tenere battery bracket. Though the sellers will, take it back, they state it's a general fit that can be 'padded' to fit the Tenere. As the previous battery they sent was totally inappropriate (no notch at all and no way was going to fit) I'm a little suspicious that this is ideal for a bike th at bounces about a bit. At a push I'd do this, but not as a preplanned solution.

Any thoughts appreciated.
