New version of xt 660 r

Hi all,

I open this new topic because I think it could be productive and of great interest to all lovers of the XT 660 R and I need your help. I want to start by clarifying that everything I say is my valuation according to my point of view.

In these last 2 years I have been analyzing all trails motorcycles, to conclude according to my needs which is the best injection Trail that there is to date.

What I have in mind to conclude which is the best trail is its versatility, power, reliability and maintenance.

A versatile motorcycle for me is an agile motorcycle capable of making long distances and getting into all kinds of terrains specially off-road as on-road my demands are very little, but I do want a very very good bike for off-road and so I take into account ergonomics, weight and free height to the ground is very important.

I like to do rally-enduro with my bike, I like off-road challenges, speed, adrenaline and all this through nature, outside the civilization, crossing through hard trails, ascent with stones, obstacles, some little jumps, mud, water, sand and if I drop the bike I could hold if its not that heavy ,it is not only about having a good physical condition. An Africa Twin is a great motorcycle , but to handle this bike when you about to fallit is very taugh, especially in sand and mud so for that reason I reject the Africa Twin
For me a good bearable weight that allows you to do on the type of terrain that I have mentioned 170km, to ride for hours, is a weight that does not exceed 185kg, although ideal would be closer to 170.

I've been waiting for the Tenere 700 since I knew about it and I thought it was going to be the perfect bike after 14 years of the launch of the XT660R but its 205KG so I also reject this bike.

Many people talk about the KTM 690R enduro or the Husqvarna 701 enduro that are almost the same. I think they are great bikes but for in my opinion they are very high, furthermore I think these two brands do not convey confidence in reliability for the following reasons:

Both the KTM and the Husqvarna have approximately 0.05% more in cm3 and 53% more power and all with 59% less oil than the XT660R. It is logical to think that if it gives you all that power with almost the same cm3 and with that difference of oil capacity to avoid temperature, friction, etc ... it can not be as reliable as the XT660R.

For me the best trail bike is the XT660 but needs improvements and I've already done a few and most of these changes were made by a person on his Tenere 660. I leave here the link in case you want to take a look:

http://traildreamer.com/la-tenere-6[]]detalle-1-por-que-la-yamaha-xt660z/

The free height to the ground that it brings of factory is of 21cm and I have it right now in 26cm (husqvarna has 28cm).

The series motorcycle depending on the year is between 181 and 184kg with all the filled liquid tanks and I have mine now with 173.5kg with all the tanks filled to the top, I achieved it by changing the exhaust to a 2 in 1 and changing the battery for a lithium one but not only that, I removed other bits a pieces and I had to add extra weight putting an ultra heavy duty inner tube and a skid plate

Now what I want to do, and it would be great if we can all make this possible so we can share it in case someone else also wants to make this improvement.

The seat seems super comfortable but one problem is the big curve it has. If you run into an unexpected obstacle that will you can hurt your ``balls that has already happened to me. For this reason I think it would be ideal to modify the fuel tank by lowering its height a bit, but you would take a few liters of fuel capacity away. Our bike has 15L and the Husqvarna has 13L. In my opinion taking away 2-3 liters of capacity if it comes to that amount, it's worth it. Add an auxiliary deposit if you need it and it is not that complicated and if not just take a little spare bottle and thats it. In addition to lowering the height of the fuel tank the seat needs to be a bit more straight.

Another improvement that the bike needs is the front rim, the original one got broken after the second trip. Excel rim with reinforced spokes and the rear rim to change it for a 18 rim to increase traction and gain a few more cm high of the ground. All endure bikes usually have 21 front and 18 back and trails usually have 21 ahead and 17 rear , although the most endurized have 18 rear. Another thing that I would like to know is if you can put lighter hubs but with the same resistance, I see it complicated but I would like to value it.

A detail that is super important is also a chainguidee, not long ago the chain came out. After that mishap I put the chainguide straight away

Finally the fork and rear suspension, I would put the same suspensions that was put on the tenere 660. A Kayaba double cartridge of the WR450 from 2009 onward. I am not an expert in suspensions but several people that do understand well told me it is better a 2009 onward, maybe it is because of the double cartridge.

The TFX rear suspension that has a lot of adjustments.

These would be all the changes I want to make and almost all of them have already been done by the owner of the tenere 660 that I put with the link, except for the seat and the tank, which seems to be quite complicated to get it done and here is where I really need your help.

These changes make cost quite a lot. This project buying a secondhand fork I think it could be between 3200-3500 including absolutely all changes.

Kind regards to everyone and I hope I can get some help from you to find somewhere that can modify the fuel tank.
