MikeinNZ is on a distinguished road
Inlet valve stems dished.

Have just put a rebuilt crank back in my bike and thought I would share what else I found.
Not sure if this has been covered before so shoot me down if it has .
The bike has always had noisy tappets on the inlet side and after pulling the rocker shafts I found the top of the valve stems dished by about 0.015”.
No amount of adjustment was ever going to get the gap right as the feeler gauge was bridging the dish gap. I removed the inlet valves and re-ground the stem face. Happy to say it’s running like it was brand new.
