Bike to bike comms
My second question today is about comms.
Lots out there but I don't want to pay nearly the same price as my bike! Bloody Hell some are pricey! And there are sometimes too many gadgets on them. Looking for a fairly basic bike to bike unit which is good enough for offroad. Any ideas? Done a search here on the forum for a thread but didn't find one... Cheers!

We use Sena SMH5's, great for rider to pillion and reasonable enough for bike to bike over short distance, maybe 700 meter with clear line of sight.
Really good for phone comms and music too. I paid 200 for a pair, my mate got one cheap and once I'd upgrade the software on it it works a treat.

I went down the Scala Rider route because the kit comes with a boom microphone, (I guess others do too though), that clipped directly in to a designed recess within my Cabery Tourmax (flip front) helmet.
Plus the Scala had a very easy to use two button operation, great for gloved hands. Also the twin speakers have multiple fitting options and the sound is fantastic. I'm not a fan of listening to music whilst riding but the system does have Bluetooth and will take your music collection from your phone/pod which goes to background when someone talks. One thing I found was some people complained that their new comms unit would sync in to their sat navs. TomTom have recognised this and have a web page stating which unit is compatible with what comms kit. Check that 1st..I bought my Scala because I'd just spend hundreds on a new TomTom and it would have been a PITA if they didn't work together.

Hi Gents,
I have had a Scala for the last 10 years, works flawlessly. Been out through Europe with two mates every year in all conditions and roads. Worth the money. Better than anything else and we have tried lots of gadgets. My two pennies... |
