Oil passage question for experts

My xtx (32,000 ks) seems to have run a big end and I'm trying to figure out why...
When I removed the inner clutch cover a section of gasket was missing that seems to come from a oil gallery from the inner clutch cover. This seems to be fed from inside the crankcase via a sealing ring with a ball-bearing. Is this a oil pressure regulator or just a check valve? I'm wondering if the gasket has blown out and now the crankshaft isn't getting the oil pressure it needs?
Hopefully someone with a good understanding of the oil paths can answer...please have a look at the photo link below
