First (600 mile) service
Taking the XTX in for it's first service tomorrow. It suffers from the inevitable surging at 30 ish, is it worth mentioning it or are they likely to deny all knowledge and say it's nothing to worry about?
Anyone got satisfaction from their supplying/servicing dealer on the issue of surging or will it be the Kev mod? |

'Cos I'm here in Spain I've gone the Kev mod route an' its brill' - no surgin' an' oodles of low-down torque - see the thread where I asked Kev - an' he an' Freez DID IT FOR ME.

That's the bit I don't understand CaptMoto.
My XTX comes in that range and I've showed the paperwork to my local dealer and they say my bike needed the TPS changing only. I didn't really know what to say back to the dealer so I went with what they said. Then curiosity got the better of me and I called Yamaha customer services and I got the same story back from them. The changing of the TPS made quite alot of difference. It would definately be worth mentioning that to the garage tomorrow. |

The TPS recall was offically notified only beginning of this year, the ECU issue has been going on since the bike was first launched in 04 until late 05, I think they are have been instructed not to reveal the ECU issue unless it is a case where a client is really fiercly complaining, however it is expected that the leaked memo was forgotten since the fact that after the middle of 2005 all new xt's should have come with the ECU ending 01 instead of 00.
I can only tell you that if you don't put your foot down you get nowhere with them, they certainly don't want a customer to kick a fuss in their showroon in front of other potential customers so use it and use it good and it will pay you back |

My XTX is on a 56 plate and that has an ECU number ending in -00.
I got fed up with the dealer in the end. I got comments like, "dont' worry mate, they all do that" and "everyone we've sold we get the customer coming back. They're all like that." Upping the CO helped with the stalling and also rolling the throttle open instead of yanking it open smoothes things out. Last edited by ManicMic; 07-05-07 at 23:58. |

Thanks all, well surprise, surprise ...... took the bike in for the first service and mentioned the surging and handed over the 2 print outs linked by the Cap. They were also due to replace a scuffed fork leg under warranty.
On collecting the bike, the fork leg hadn't been fitted because 'Yamaha had sent a black one instead of silver' and the surging "was due to the TPS recall" but they couldn't fit it as they hadn't got the part. Despite me pointing out the contents of the print outs at reception I doubt that the 'mechanic(s)' even looked at them. The outcome? another 110 mile round trip to get the fork leg and TPS fitted. USELESS Remain unconvinced that this will cure the surging - update to follow! |

Your right. Changing the TPS won't get rid of the surging but you will find your throttle much more sensitive (that's good). I had mine changed a couple of weeks ago and now I can get the power down when exiting roundabouts much earlier which makes the bike more fun to ride. I try and stay out of the surging rev range and ride 3rd gear for 30mph and a tiny, tiny bit of throttle. If I ride at 30mph in 2nd gear my bike will surge. I've just got used to it in a way as it's only got 1 piston so it's never gonna be smooth but it don't half shift when ya twist which is nice.
