Water pump repair question
Hey guys
My water pump started making some noises so I assumed its worn out. Purchased the repair kit. Mechanic told me it takes 4 hours to do it and asked for way too much money than Im willing to pay. Is it that complicated? Can I do it instead? Does it require any special tools or know how? |

Personally, I think 4 hours is a bit steep for a competent mech.
Have a look at the schematic diagram here and decide if you want to tackle it yourself. Since the pump is easily accessible and once the radiator fluid is drained down, it might be easier than you think. The only snag might be pushing out the roller bearing (item 5). You could get the unit off and take it, with your kit, to your man and ask kindly if they'll put it together. A chargeable hour tops. https://www.ajsutton.co.uk/genuinepa...ter-pump?uID=0

I was going to do the fluid changes anyway so I might take it out myself and see what needs to be done. Ill ask if theyre willing to help if I cant handle it. Do I need a special tool for that bearing?

I'm not sure because I can't remember if it can be pushed out from the opposite side or not and I only had mine off two months ago. If it can, it would need some delicate tapping because of the thin and light nature of its alloy body. I guess the correct way would be to use a bearing puller.
