Hepco & Becker engine bar vibration
I have Hepco & Becker engine bars to my 2012 XT660Z Tenere.
I notice while riding if you put your feet on the bars like highway pegs they vibrate quite a lot. I fitted LED flood lights to the bars light mount holes and they are suffering from the vibration. I have had to glue the mounting screws in as they vibrate loose. I have just noticed after todays ride that one of the mounting brackets in the light has cracked through on one side. Is this normal and should I move the lights to the fairing?? Thank for any advise.

I wouldn't be happy with excess frame vibration. As an experiment I would place the bike on the stand and hold a screw driiver or spanner loosely against various surface parts of the crash rail and rev the bike slowly from tick over to, let's say, 5000 rpm and see where and when the crash bars buzz and make the spanner dance on the bar. If it vibrates dramatically then my choices would be to remove the bars and clean all the fittings and frame mounts and refit / torque bolts to spec. Or, just check your torque values. Adding accessories, albeit intended, can accentuate vibration issues. See if removing the lights changes the buzz test. Sometimes adding stuff can dampen down vibration too. Also a crack in a weld on the bars can setbup vibrations. If it was my problem I know Id be in for a lot of guess work and trial and error.

also keep into concideration that you're riding a thumper. they do vibrate.
just try to keep rpm's around 4000rpm, espacially in top gear. this is just my point of view ;-) |

I just found bracket plans by "Gas-Up-Lets-Go" so I might head off to the Big Green Shed and get some supplies.
Moving them off the engine bars might be the answer. |
