New Belgian XTz rider

hi all, i just got me an 09 tenere 660.
looking to tweak the engine somewhat.
found lots of stuff allready.
bike's got about 65000km on the clock.
if anyone should thik i need to check certain things engine-wise, let me know.
engine runs ok as far as i know, starts well.
the lock for the key is a bit worn, i need to fiddle the key to get it turned.
can i clean this out ,as there's some grease in it i think.
or could i orde a different lock and keep the same keys?
i assume this will need to be reprogrammed by a dealer, or is there a procedure to perform the programming?

i allso plan to do some travelling, but as many gravel/unpaved roads as possible :-)

any fellow Belgians that can redirect me to places to buy stuff (in our country) for the bike at the right price, please do so :-)

cheers, Hannes.

Hello hannes and welcome aboard.
Great choice of bike pal.
That mileage isn't a worry on these robust engines.
Are you looking to run panniers for your travels, either soft or hard.
Performance wise a decat standard or free flow system combined with a fuel mod and free flow filter setup can help.
Could recommend these boys for pannier racks and main stand

Welcome!

My vote goes to Heavy Duty for panniers etc.
Quality and super prices.

thanks all so far.
i have all 3 paniers from GIVI but i think they will rattle to pieces on rough roads,no? allso it's safer for myself, when i crash, the paniers won't break my leg or foot. that's why i concider soft luggage systems...

Welcome to the forum. ....the sticky key is a known minor issue , best to thoroughly clean the lock and dry it with an airline and lube it with graphite. And for trails in Europe check out the TET..trans European Trail . All the info is online. Steve

don't think it's a sticky key, rather worn out key lock.the bike's got about 65000km now.
seems like there's some kind of grey grease in it already.
can i just spray brake cleaner in it and blow it out with air?

TET is on my list , as soon as weather becomes better, i'm out for it with some friends :-D first our own country (Belgium) 2-3 days riding and camping. good test for a bigger trip in Europe...
