Tenere Problems

Hi guys, I have a 2014 Yamaha xt660z. I want to ask two questions about xt660z. First, my tenere's windshield is vibrating and making noise while riding as you can guess it's increasing with high rpm. Have you ever experienced vibration on windshield ? How can I solve this annoying problem ? And the second one, I filled the tank and went 160km in traffic now fuel gauge shows 1 of 6. I now xt660z has unstable fuel gauge but I'm not sure that if my bike has high fuel consumption or has sth with fuel gauge ? Thanks.

With full tank I ride 155 miles until F-trip generally.

Have you tried retightening the rubber mounted bolts holding the screen on? Mine vibrates but doesn't make any noise that I notice

Yes, I've tried it but the noise is still there. When I hold the windscreen while riding it stops.

check the headlight lens, it might have come loose out of the socket of the adjustment screw.
i've had it and managed to pop it back in.
pull the rubber cover and see if you can move the lightbulb back and forth to see if sits tight,in my case i could move the lightbulb along with the lens, so i found the problem there.

If from a "full" tank to "F trip" you're getting 155 miles or 250km. I would ask how many litres it takes to refill the tank.

If it's 10 or 11 litres then you're bike is, roughly, in the normal M.P.G. or litres /100km range for unaggressive riding.

The tank has a capacity of 23 litres (from full to completely empty)

If you only need those 10/11 litres, or so, to re fill at your 155 miles then you still have 12+ litres left.

This then implies your f-trip is coming on prematurely but if you're putting back in, let's say, 15 -18 (ish) litres, your bike is in the 46 - 38 m.p.g and that could be anything from riding style to poor bike health. (dirty air filter / tyre pressures / chain tension / poor engine oil grade / vehicle loading, bla, bla, bla )

From memory the 'F' light should kick in with approx 4-5 litres left in the tank giving a rough range of 60-70 (100+ Km) miles before you're pushing.

Last time I think I bought 16 litres and now clock shows 170 kms and as I said before it shows 1 on 6. I never went on too many kms on F-Trip so don't know how many kms I can go on F-Trip. I changed air filter and motor oil recently and checked tires' pressures too. Vehicle is not loaded. But didn't check the chain. Generally I don't ride aggressively. Mostly I ride between 3-5k rpm. Should I try go on F-trip as much as I can to see how many kms I can go ?

[QUOTE=tuttacromata;232989]. Should I try go on F-trip as much as I can to see how many kms I can go ?[/QUOTE?]

Only if you carry a 5 litre fuel can as a passenger for the journey. I'm almost certain that the fuel pump will auto -prime without any issues if you completely run out.

It's not uncommon for a premature F trip but as mentioned before, fill the bike up, ride for over 150km, re fill it and see how many litres it takes. Then do the maths to get your fuel consumption. Knowing this will let you work out how far you could travel on your F trip, given the full tank is 23 litres.
