Tenere starting
Hi guys, why is it that when I leave my tenere more than a month, when I come to start, it won't fire unless I use full throttle, got good spark, turns over fine, me thinks defo fuel related. It starts fine on a weekly/daily basis, just a pig when left a bit longer. Any thoughts greatly appreciated. Cheers steve

Cheers for that, but fuel is fresh, don't know if pump is priming, blocked fuel breather, etc, can't be much as always starts, just struggles when left, but it needs full throttle and coughs and chugs, then fires and runs fine....??

I just had the same with my (new to me) Tenere. I had the same with my Super Tenere. I wouldn't worry about it. Now you know it happens, just start it with wide open throttle if it doesn't fire full time if it's been sitting for a while.

FWIW, I also believe it's a stale fuel thing. My Tenere was, for some reason, tolerant to being left standing, but my current bike and my WR250R are definitely not. Even so, my Tenere would reach the end of its patience after about 3 months (I worked away), and was very unhappy about it. It missed and stumbled, and tried to stall, and was generally "off" until the injector line cleared.
It depends on the fuel, obviously enough. Some go off earlier than others, and it seems to depend on the refuelling source, logically. High-turnover suppliers are best imo. Whereas my 250 often had fuel in it that was a couple of months old to begin with. |
