Heat shield or not.
Just getting round to fitting my Exan and have removed the poorly stuck on heat shield. Has anyone else done this and then regretted it? There is a fair enough gap between the exhaust and the plastic but I thought I'd double check before melting my undertray.

There is, as you say, quite a gap there so a melted airbox is possibly unlikely to be an issue. However, the function of the heat shield is two-fold: to stop the air box melting, but also to stop the air within the airbox being preheated by the exhaust. Remember the cooler (and more dense) the air ingested by the engine is, the better it is for efficiency, power and torque.
