Do I need a new throttle position sensor

A little about my bike. Shes a 2005 xtx with 22000kms on the clock. stage 3 air intake, staintune exhaust and kev fuel mod. regurlarly maintained.

I havent ridden bike all winter and when I started her up the other day, it seems to be idling lower and once its warmed up if I blip the throttle it cuts out.
If I drive it, it bogs down under throttle and surges like crazy and cuts out on deaccelaration, its hard to start then even once warmed up ( have to give a bit of gas to get it going)
I have been onto yamaha and the tps had been done back in 07' under the recall.
I have checked for vac leaks in the system and it was alright.
Checked spark plug and there was quite a bit of carbon build up, so replaced that and it ran slightly better but still way off.
Im just looking for any suggestions before I fork out $326 for a new sensor.
Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Thanks..Carl

Are you running clean/new fuel?...Maybe run redex or similar through it to clean away any old petrol residue..

Trouble with storing a bike these days is that modern fuels containing ethanol (E5/E10) go off very quickly. The ethanol draws water from the air over time and this water reacts to form sulphuric acid which then eats away at metal (particularly aluminium alloys, brass and copper) and rubber components in the fuel system. Ideally you need to drain the tank or add a fuel stabiliser.

If you just 'topped' up with fresh fuel, then you will have only diluted the 'off' fuel and there will also still have been a lot left lurking in the fuel system. For the sake of a few litres of fuel, I'd drain the whole thing down and refill with fresh petrol using a fuel conditioner and injector cleaner additive and try that first.

It may be the TPS, but you can check that with a multimeter if necessary if the problem still persists.
