buzzing noise

anyone get annoying buzzing noises when riding the xtz...seems to be under the tank area ...hard to tell...sometimes around 4to 5v k revs...anything you can suggest to deaden these sounds or is it just the curse of a big single

i had a weird buzzing noise as well although with a Tenere...one at certain revs/speed combinations... Couldn't figure it out for ages! Thought it was the springs inside the WP forks vibrating or something... Took apart the dark/headlight.. Looking for something loose!
In the end it turned out to be the chain! I had been running it a bit on the loose side... Adjusted it to manual specs ( 50mm play? ) and noise gone!

The screen/cowl/headlight area is notorious for buzzes and rattles. Have a look at putting pieces of cut up inner tube between the top of the headlight and the cowling. On mine, no matter how carefully you fit the cowl, it just touches the top of the headlight.

If the buzzing is coming from below you (under the tank), particularly from 3500 - 4500 rpm, then there's a good chance its the "too-long-a-screw" issue holding the exhaust heat shield in place over the 'Y' pipe. Have a look at this thread...
