Smile New guy from Sweden

Hey guys,

Jonas here from Stockholm. Just bought a 2008 XTX with Kevs fuelmod, DNA filter and slipons. So I feel I'm pretty much set, what I need to do is change the chain and maybe sprockets and also it needs new rear brake pads, a little fiddling during the summer I recon.

I am a new biker as well (42 yrs old though, last time I rode a motorcycle was a dirt bike when I was 17), in Sweden you need a special drivers license and I am about to get that license (fingers crossed!).

Actually I was considering a BMW G650 xmoto but on the plus side for the Yamaha was the living community and the ability to get help and read a lot of guides. The seller actually pointed out this forum as a great source for every xt660-owner.

Ok crappy picture of the bike on a trailer

Thanks guys! Looking forward to be a part of the community!

First task, to figure out how to break, shorten and reassembly the chain. Doesn't look that difficult though

Swedish below

Tackar, jo det var okej pris. Lite smfix men att fixa kedjan o byta belgg bak verkar ju inte s knivigt (vi fr vl se nr jag desperat behver hjlp med att f ihop kedjeelndet igen haha).

hi, can I ask why you want to shorten the chain or you replacing it with new, new should come supplied correct length.

Hi,

the chain looks terrible, I can't adjust the stretch anymore either.

So I thought I might just shorten it and use it for a while longer since I am not going to be driving that much before I get my license.

Or maybe replace it with a new chain, but I am not sure if that is a waste of money if the sprockets are kind of bad as well.

Or option 3, just bite the bullet and replace the sprockets and chain altogether....

Maybe easiest to buy a new chain of correct length, cut the old one and just replace it with a new one. Then I do not need to shorten anything.
