Milky oil on inside of cap
Hi forum, I did my valve clearances today and when I took the large cap off of the crank case to get to the crank I noticed the inside of it has gone milky so has been exposed to water somehow. The oil that leaks out when you are turning the engine over looked fine it was just on the inside of this cap. Sorry for the crappy picture but you get the idea. If it is only on the inside of this cap and not in the stuff that was leaking out is it unlikely that I have a problem? Should I drain the engine to be sure? Thanks.

If the oil in the rest of the lubrication system looks OK and isn't milky (and the coolant is OK) then it's probably more than likely it is just normal condensation collecting inside the cap as it is a cold spot. You'd expect to see this sort of cold spot milkiness generally on a motor that was/is run on lots of short journeys or in winter time. Is it running OK?
I've just read your posts in the Ask Kev section... obviously your bike isn't running OK! Time to investigate I would suggest?

Thanks for the replay Pleiades, yes the bike is running fine with the new engine. Just adjusted the valve clearances and it's running sweet as was just concerned about the milky oil inside that cap but you have alleviated my fears. I do run it short journeys, generally 10-15 minutes each way to work and back 5 days a week.
