Hi Everyone.
The reason for this thread is after being in a rush yesterday morning and not securing my security devices when I left for work, I came back to all my chains/locks and cover with solar panel having being nicked. The bike is kept outside. Luckily I have somewhere else short term to keep my bike undercover until new chains/locks/cover can be obtained. Now my question is, where do you secure chains to your bike. I use the 'Y' section of frame below the airbox and round the frame leading to the tail (where the rear brake cylinder is. It's a tight fit with the old Oxford XL 12mn chain but I'd like to use an Almax 16mm chain as no doubt the locks went missing so the bike can be nicked later on. I can only lock the bike on the right hand side (sitting on bike) as its parked on a slope. I can't really see anywhere else to secure it through the frame that has a large enough aperture to loop a hefty chain through. Does anyone else have any suggestions as its a good opportunity to ramp up security? Thanks Last edited by Simo; 07-04-16 at 10:38. |

Hi , I use the same method as yourself, disc lock on the front wheel and large Oxford chain through the frame just below the airbox and then I pass the chain through the back wheel.Thats it for when I'm at work.At home , the same method but It gets locked to the wall , one security light above, one on entrance to garden. But I have always gone by the fact of whatever your going to do if someone wants too nick something that bad they will, whatever we use. I have heard of bikes just being picked up with a lorry grab! It's a shocking world we live in!..

The real prob these days is a battrey angle grinder with a cut off disc
chain or cable are no trouble... in the days before battrey grinders , bolt cutters would not cut a high tensile wire cable as it just crushed.... use a cable... bolt cutter safe if not grinder safe.... ..

Thanks for the replies so far.
My set up was an Oxford Boss Alarm disc lock, Oxford XL chain/padlock and some generic locks to keep the Stormex cover on, along with a Datatool S4 alarm. Really want to use an Almax chain. I've messaged them asking about dimensions of the chain. Will be setting up CCTV now (tempted to leave some crappy locks out again and catch them. As they were stolen in broad daylight.) I agree, if they want it, they'll get it. But i want it to be hard and very noisy for them. Especially as the bike is within ear shot of where I live, and a built up residential area (not that anyone cares anymore). Also I had an old KMX with a front disc lock and they switched the wheel out from another bike. Wish manufactures took a bit more consideration of frame lockable locations. This bike and my previous had very little space/thought. Motorcycle theft is an epidemic In a lot of 1st world countries(so I've heard). |

just make your bike look harder to steal
than the bike next to it....

Or less attractive (so it won't be worth so much as spares)

I use a ABUS GRANIT Detecto X Plus 8077 =
http://www.abus.com/eng/Mobile-Secur...to-X-Plus-8077
Not exactly cheap (EUR 250 + chain), but the 3D motion detection system is really worth. Once activated, if you change the lock position for more than a couple of degrees, it will wake up the entire neighborhood. In conjunction with the very bored and biker friendly old lady that has her window right next to my bike... ![]() |
