Smile honda africa twin test ride

Hi just come back from a test ride on a Honda Africa twin, its a nice bike but for me not nice enough to part with another 5 grand. the switch gear is reasonable and every things operated by buttons so there are no menues to go through. The seat is quite a bit lower than a Tenere 660 on the standard setting which gives you confidence in traffic which I needed for the first couple of miles!! Compared to the Tenere it feels LONG, it seems a good way to the front wheel, but I have to admit the overall sitting position is very good. Surprisingly the seat is quite hard and after about 30 miles I needed to shift position regularly. The engine is very torquey and will pull any gear once you are doing over 25mph however on the motorway I was a bit disappointed at 80 ish mph the engine was a bit wooden there was no feeling of loping along with plenty in reserve, obviously there was more on tap but there was no eagerness in the response to more throttle (could be just a tight engine but I don't think so) standing up on the pegs the position was confidence inspiring but this is a big powerful bike for low speed manouveres off road. One very good point it actualy feels lighter than aTenere at a stand still. One very bad point I did not like was the way the support bars for the passenger foot pegs stuck out and would have the same effect of trapping your legs just like a set of hard panniers would have if you were to drop it off road. The dash is too busy for me but you may get used to it after time and the gear indicater seemed to lag behind the gear change. Handling, on long sweeping bends its very stable but on tight 30 - 45 mph bends you have to press pretty hard on the bars to avoid running wide or have to lean in significantly. Summing up its a very easy bike to ride and feels a lot lighter than it actualy is, it just feels like a very nice road bike to me.
