Possible rectifier problem/how to recognise a rectifier problem

Hmm... I know rectifiers are a known problem on the Ten. My bike has now 108 k kms on the clock and so far I havent experienced any electrical problems with the bike - until today.

The bike had been parked for almost two days without running the engine.
When turning the ignition on this morning lights came on in the dash as normal but then immidiately dies out. When pushing the starter button it only "buzzes" and dont turn the engine. Luckily I was able to jump start it and it has been running ok the rest of the day. Eg - I have been stopping and starting a few times and riding 350 kms. I have been camping the last two nights so I have charged my phone and my Ipad a couple of times these two days on a power outtake from the bike - but I cant imagine that charging a phone and an Ipad a couple of times would drain the bike battery for so much power that this would happen. But I might be wrong?

I had a new battery installed 3-4 months ago - so it shouldnt be anything wrong with that.

I fear the rectifier is about to die but I havent had any warning lights in the dash and I have no error code either.

Any suggestions?

For piece of mind, mount a voltmeter.

Its rarely the actual rectifier that fails, its the connector. Pull the connector off and examine it carefully, looking for blackened areas or melting. If you can manage it, pull the 5 pins out and give them a gentle pinch up to give them a tighter fit into the rectifier and smear with dielectic grease if you have some handy. While it's off you could also check the continuity between the connector, the stator and the battery.

Have you recently fitted a usb power cable to your bike? I have had a low battery problem which I resolved by disconnecting the usb cable. I was informed by Pleiades on this forum that usb cables CONSTANTLY drain power unless isolated from the battery via a switch. My new battery was flat after approx 5 days. Try disconnecting the usb if fitted.

Had a bit of a checkup on the electrics in a local garage today. Both battery and charging systems were ok. The cultprit was a fawlty power outlet. It drew a good bit of current from the battery. So now its of the bike and had a new power outlet mounted.
