Flickering neutral light

Hi everyone,

Once in every few rides my neutral light flickers when in first gear and neutral. It's happened a few times now but not sure if this is anything to worry about - any ideas? Planning to hit the road for at least a few weeks and want to iron out any issues now.

Cheers,
Jonny

Generally a flickering neutral light indicates that the switch is worn, particularly its internal spring which keeps the contacts closed/open. The flickering will only get worse as time goes by. It's a fairly common problem on bikes as they age - just think how many times that switch has been open and closed during its life!

Removing the switch from casing (LHS) and giving it a clean helps. It is also worth tracing the wiring back to the connector block and making sure all is good, clean and there are no areas where the insulation has worn through.

If the neutral switch is temperamental (or stops working) the biggest problem you will have is the bike won't start on the sidestand as the start inhibit system will think it is in gear.

Sounds like it isn't the end of the world if it deteriorates a little bit. I'll have fiddle with the wires. Thanks Pleiades!
