Crocodiles - A serious question
I am planning next years trip to Cape York (by XT ofcourse).
I don't particularly want to be eaten by a crocodile while I sleep. What does everyone do in Qld, or anywhere else, to be able to safely sleep where crocodiles are co habitating. I am thinking a hammock between two trees but they jump! |

crocs are rather lazy creatures unless really hungry, the only attacks on humans are either in the water or right next to the water, thus keep away from the water and you'll be fine, but if you get too close their eyes are their weak spot, if you get into a death roll your finished.

Attachment 4880 you can get very close to freshwater crocs but dont try it with salty's. There is pamplets avaiable at tourists info stops in Cairns that explain the do's and don'ts in croc country.I work and camp in the top end maybe 6 months of the year so encounters are plentiful.Just dont visit the same spot near a river at the same time routinely, crocs will lie in wait for days waiting for an ambush.Saltys will live and venture into freshwater.

I'm sure as hell not swimming with them
I used to work on a oil exploration boat and we would see them way out to sea. I certainly wasn't planning to camp anywhere near the water but camping on high ground isn't a solution either. Did you ever see the Leyland brothers episode where they were miles from even a stream and they came across a salty eating a road kill skippy? What is what I worry about, the ones that ain't where they should be.

well like all god's creatures they go far for their food if they have to.
I would contact the local tourist board (or similar) and get their advice |
