Universal type pinlock fitting woes

UPDATE

Pinlock have got back to me and offered me a replacement photochromatic visor insert in silicone type when available for my visor, so good customer service from them. Thank you Pinlock.

Hi,

A quick warning to anybody considering a universal style pinlock, (these don't have a silicone rubber seal but a sticky glue, as they are designed to fit any visor).

I dislike the low winter sun in my eyes, so purchased a photochromatic pinlock insert; although my visor, an AGV race 2, is pinlock capable, I could only get the universal glue type pinlock. I had hoped it would be no harder to fit than those mobile phone protectors, which I can always do bubble free.

On my careful attempt to fit, the glue on the pinlock grabbed hold of the visor in the wrong place and removed a 2 pound coin sized piece of thin film which is anti-fog coating on the inside of the visor. This meant that the pinlock would no longer stick all the way round as it had film on the glue.

Worse, it left a hole in the anti-fog layer which now fogs up very nicely!

Thanks pinlock! Their instructions don't mention this scenario and suggest that if fitting is not quite correct then the pinlock can be peeled off the visor and re-fitted.....

If you really want to try and fit one of these I would suggest:

1. Cutting the waxed paper, that protects the glue, vertically in half at the middle of the pinlock, leaving it in place for now. Take care not to cut the pinlock..
2. Positioning the pinlock in the clean visor, (visor removed), use helping hands or scotch magic tape to hold down left and right sides of pinlock where you want them.
3. Carefully peel away the waxed paper from one half, starting at the middle and securing the glue as you go. Repeat for other half.

I can't say if this will work or not, but it will give you a much better chance of success, in my opinion, than the original instructions.

Alternatively save your money and buy a pair of sunglasses and wear them as conditions dictate! A certain spanish online retailer sold me a pair of oakley fuel cell glasses for all of 78 pence when I bought a new jacket.

Although it has trashed my visor somewhat have to put it down to experience.
