DNA cleaning and oiling

Just bought a DNA stage one for $115... You would think that for the $$ they would at least give you the filter oil... No...:-(

So . Do I need to now order an Air filter service kit or can I just use regular Motex air filter spray...?

Stupid kit comes with a small container of grease... Don't laugh but I'm sure I'm not the first one who has smeared This over the filter ...😳

Doh...

Any advise please

Hmmm, the filters come ready to install ... you should detect a pinkish colour in the filter element and that's the oil. The grease is there of course to seal the filter where it slides into the airbox.

Now if you really have smeared the grease over the filter element that's going to stop the filter doing it's intended job. If it was me I would want to clean it before fitting for use. Personally I only use the DNA service kit but I do know people use the K&N equivalent ... I normally service the filter myself and tell the local shop not to touch it during regular service intervals ... sometime ago they forgot and I'm not sure what brand they used to oil the filter element but it took forever to clean the black sticky crap out of the filter.

I have plenty of DNA Filter Oil available if you can get it clean (using say K&N Power Kleen) ... unfortunately I'm out of DNA Cleaner ...

Hope this helps ...

Dna

Hi Pete

Nope .... Filter was bone dry when I got it.

When I bought my son a K&N it came with a small tube of filter oil.

WTF they don't include it in the box or already lubed I don't know but I'm not happy....😒

I'll clean it with warm soapy water and use the tube of K&N I have.

Thanks Pete

Hmmm ... I pulled my spare Super Tenere DNA filter out of it's packaging tonight just to double check the colour ... and yes the pink is a fairly light shade but can be definitely seen.

I can only think that your filter must have somehow skipped that manufacturing stage !!!

I see that you are planning to clean the filter with warm soapy water but I'm just wondering whether that will be successful and that you might have to use some "approved" air filter cleaner as a degreaser.

I haven't used the K&N air filter oil but my riding buddy has used it on the K&N filter he has in his own Tenere. From memory the oil consistency and application was almost identical to the DNA stuff but I do have plenty of the genuine DNA oil available if you prefer to use that ...

Good luck ...
