Pillion headache

Hi everybody.

First time poster. Just joined the XT family and having tons of fun with my Tenere.

I can't say the same for my wife though. Whenever she gets on the back she enjoys it but pretty soon she will start complaining about headaches. She never had these on the G650GS (same helmet) so at first I thought of replacing the helmet but after thinking on it for a bit I figured it must be because of the seat height.

Do you guys think it could be that the screen is too short and the constant airflow on her head is giving her these headaches?

If it is. What aftermarket screens can you recommend that will remedy this?

Option 1) Metal Mule a British Company that supplies loads of race and off road aftermarket parts as well as luggage, bike protection, and more. By the way if you order from Metal Mule and you mention that you are a member of this forum you get 10% off

Option 2) You could get a lockable clamp on spoiler by Touratech (which is well pricey!, in fact would be cheaper to get a shorter missus ) but might be just the ticket

Option 3) Givi Screen http://www.bs-motoparts.com/en/Defau...V60aAtC28P8HAQ

Option 4) Puig Screen http://www.bs-motoparts.com/en/Defau...hiYaApQ08P8HAQ

I am not sure if Yamaha do one but I never heard any of our members rating it, so it must not be all that.

Thanks CaptMoto.

I was looking at the metal mule one earlier. Will look at the others you mentioned and decide (except the touratech ).

I didn't know we got a Metal Mule discount. Something to bear in mind. Thanks.

Contacted Madstad about an adjustable screen for the XTZ and they were very keen but as they don't have the bike in the U.S. They needed measurements etc to make one up. Never got around to it.

I like the idea as a fixed screen has a few problems in my opinion.
1 make it big enough to provide good wind protection and now it's a hazard offroad, very likely to put it through your face in an off or simply standing up.

2 the wind dam effect produces the buffeting we experience and accentuates the airflow up through the tank/fork area. If the screen was off the bike at the front the airflow under the screen would neutralise the buffeting from the fork area.

3 being able to lift the screen or at least play with the height and angle should enable any size people to find their sweet spot that stops the buffeting on the helmet. Even more important for keeping the minister of war-and-finance on the pillion happy.

So to that end I would still be interested in one as the make the support that the screen mounts to and reinforcing the headlight mount assembly would also fix a weak point on the bike for me. Then the larger selection of adjustable screens should suit any rider.
Worth shooting them an email and seeing if they are interested still, might be a good solution. They may do a universal kit that is just the windscreen of your choice and the Robo-brackets that could be mounted to a cut down screen.

Matt.

Does she wear a 'peaked' helmet. These are known for vibration and buffeting on the Tenere
