old chain new master link?

I've brought a couple of new master links for my chain with the view to take the chain off and give it a really good clean more often.

It's currently fitted with a rivet link.

Now the fun part, my chain has worn a slight flat spot where it's run over the chain guide on the swing arm. will I be ok using fresh links on a chain that has worn like that? can I get away with filing down the new link to match? or just leave it until it's time for a new chain?
