Was out for a blasted on my XTX 07 had the girlfriend with me and noticed very bouncy ( as if it was only the spring doing the work ) does this mean the shock is screwed

Cheers

Depending on the rider weight the original shock is normally set for solo riding. If you start carrying lots of luggage or a pillion or both you need to up the pre load on the rear by using the c spanner in the tool kit. also the front forks might seem soft so best getting a set of form spacers (search on the forum plenty of info)

The spring preload has nothing to do
with the rebound & the lack of it
is why the back is bounceing theres
no control on the shocks return stroke..
from what you say it sound like the return
damping has all but gone...
XT shocks are pretty nasty at the best of times..

If you budget can go the distance

Just remember when buying a new shock tell the seller your weight don't just ask for an aftermarket shock because you'll get one with a stock spring.
