X660X Stage 1 DNA with Akrapovic

Hi all, I've surfed all the info I could get here and found a wealth of info about stage 1 and 2 DNA filters, but found it confusing as to what goes where.
I have a pair of Akra cans but stock filtration, does stage one mean replacing the stock filter with a K&N or, preferably DNA filter? I take it I should remove the snorkel too, but what about stage 2?
Is that the filter on the side of the air box? I take it this is added instead of the side panel to replacing the stock one out as well.
Lastly, how far can I go without O2 sensor/mapping?
I'd be happy with as much performance I canget without having to alter fuel settings at all.
Many thanks.
Jules

Thanks Thom, can anyone tell me if stage 1 is the stock filter inside the box, and how far can I go without fuel mods please? In case you're all thinking: read the sticky's I have and am still unclear.
Thanks in advance.

Hi all, when browsing where to buy these filters (stage 1 and 2) I noticed one supplier saying with the stage 2 that it was necessary to adjust fuel ratio or bike would burn too lean, this is what I was asking in my posts but no-one is replying.
Please let me know what the score is about how far I can go without a fuel mod as I don't need the hassle of the extra insurance premiums when they learn that I've modded the bike ( a recent accident has already hiked premiums and I have class 1 business use so it's crippling).
Yes, I could avoid telling them, but knowing my luck the next accident will be total loss and they'll cart off the bike and see the mods leaving me without insurance.
Please point me in the right direction.

Mine was very rough with the filters/ before mod but they both (1&2) went in together. Sounds like a question for KEV, $10 well spent..

U can buy a kev fuel mod, or can make one for urself to solve the problem.
and yes the stage 1 replace the stock filter inside the airbox!

This is correct. You really should adjust the fuelling to suit a stage 2 filter setup. As has already been mentioned, the cheap, quick and easy way is with a Kev mod and the expensive way is with a Power Commander.

Who is they? the bike is your responsibility the only reason a 3rd party gets involved because bikers sit on their backsides and switch off(unless your on deaths door!!most ain't) if your not a member of a breakdown organisation then have the telephone number of a bike moving company on you there are plenty.

Always have the bike lifted back to you home because if you don't you have lost control and too many other people have a financial interest to let you have it back be it storage or being broken for spares do people realise that bike breakers have contracts with insurance companies?

As for the filters I went 1 and 2 with open pipes it wasn't right but usable then used Kev's fuel mod and then went to a PC with the snorkel out and the extra holes in the air box all depends on good a job you want to do of it.

Hi all , thanks for your replies, I'm now convinced that at the very least I'll support; the $10 is very much worth it, thanks.
Secondly, Waynovetten, the "they" I'm referring to is because the last accident I had I was knocked unconscious and I never saw my XT660X ever again, all I saw was the boot of a paramedic whilst my head lay on the tarmac as he spoke to me. Of course, most accidents aren't that bad, but if I had another like that and hadn't told them about the mod...who knows, I'd rather not take the risk.
I have noticed, after fitting the Akra cans, that the exhaust smelled "hot" they weren't hot it was just a smell of an engine running very warm, so that info about the fuel ratio, and Yamaha running it slightly lean rings a bell, hence my reticence to filter even more.
I actually enjoy the bike such as it is, but everything can be improved..
Still, as has been said, this forum is easily worth supporting, you've all been so helpful.
Jules
