On almost all modern bikes the fuel is held in several places as they try to use the space where the fuel tank USED to be located for the airbox. Thus very few bikes have fuel gauges these days and those that do are hopeless. I have just bought an MT-09 and it takes 100km to use the first of the six "blocks", and then another 40 to 50 km to get down to the last "block"!!! So the trip is really the only reliable way to know how much fuel you have left. And the MT-09 runs at almost 20km/litre whereas the XJ13 struggled to make 12!!!! Progress.
