Hi all, fresh XTX owner here (of around a month), I've done just over 300 miles since buying her and I am getting a really poor mpg... I last fueled up with 35 miles on the fuel light, i put 11.27 liters in (12.50 @ tesco) and my fuel light is already back on after just 64 miles, adding the 35 miles brings me to about 100 miles for my 11.27 l ...a measly 40mpg.
Is this normal? Most run about cars do 40mpg, I really wasn't expecting this bike to be so poor on economy. ![]() |

Have a look at you spark plug & air filter, and is the engine oil clean?
It's tricky to pin point without knowing history of the bike. Your riding style & prevailing conditions. |

It had 10,000 miles on the clock when i picked it up, very little for an 04' xt I'd say. Engine oil was fresh, not looked at the plug or filter no, but would expect them to be fine as it was sold with a fresh MOT and dealer service...
Most of my riding is town riding, as a new rider i don't exactly go heavy on the throttle either. I had plans to fit kev mod + DNA 1 & 2 but after realising how poor she's doing on fuel I may have to rethink ![]() |

Check your air filter etc. as mentioned previously. Also remember there are factors other than the engine that cause low mpg: Binding brakes, poor chain condition, chain too tight, low tyre pressures, poor fuel etc. Even the weather can have an effect! |

Solid advice, thank you.
I checked the chain, it does seem a little tight & the cush drive rubbers are worn so I've ordered some new ones. Tyre pressure is fine and the brakes are not binding (although the front brake fluctuates). I'll check the filter & plug when i am next on the bike, sprained ankle at the moment means no riding ![]() |
