Checking your oil:
Start the bike up, let it run for 5 minutes. Turn it off, let it cool for 1 minute. Remove filler cap and wipe. Replace filler cap (careful not to thread it or touch the sides) Check oil level on filler cap and top up if necessary (I've never needed to) Changing your oil: You will need a large drip tray underneath the bike, a 1 litre milk bottle with the top cut off, lots of rags or kitchen roll. And 2.6 litres of oil (if changing oil filter, 2.4 if not) Start the bike up, let it run for 5 minutes. Turn it off and remove filler cap. Remove frame drain bolt, (13mm behind front wheel) using the milk bottle to catch the jet of oil so it doesn't end up all over your front wheel! Once this has slowed to a drip, let the rest drip into the tray. Remove sump drain bolt (17mm next to gear pedal) and let this drain into the tray. Remove oil filter housing (3 x M6 hex below coolant tank, noting which is the short bolt) Check oil filter and replace if necessary (every second change or if it contains nasties). If replacing filter, add a little oil to it now, turning it to cover the paper lightly. Tilt bike over side to side to fully drain all the oil, then clean up any drops around. Replace all drain plugs and filter housing and torque. Add oil slowly using a funnel, all the way to 1.9 litres. Replace filler cap. Start engine, rev fully five times to fire oil throughout the engine. Switch off, add the remaining 0.7 litres (if you changed the filter) or 0.5 litres (SLOWLY) Replace filler cap, start engine, let it run for 5 minutes. Switch off, let it cool for 1 minute, check oil level and top up if needed. Put kettle on, put feet up.

Only one thing extra: keep the bike upright when checking the oil, not on the sidestand! Myself, I always check the oil after each ride with the same procedure: upright-idle-turn it off and wait- check the oil with the dipstick not screwed in(let it rest on the opening). For checking the oiltemperature I use the RR10 oilgauge from Kedo, to watch the temp of your oil.
