which is better? and for what reasons? My budget will allow me to buy approx a 2006 - 2008 plate.
any help would be appreciated.

X is like the premium version of the R thats all i know lol

Hi Mate,

I guess the simple question is - what sort of riding do you plan to do, road only or both on and off road ?. The R is a enduro bike the X is a motard road bike. I'd say. Sure they can be modded any which way as in you can make a R into the road bike and X into a dirt bike etc. So, if you're happy to go with what Yamaha intended, simple rule - R enduro, X road.

PS I've had both the R (2010) and the X (2009).

As above.

All I'd add is, try and get a ride on both models if you can; see which one tickles your fancy. Although very very similar, they do "feel" different.

All in all though, if it were me, I'd be tempted to be fairly open-minded and go for the best one I could find for the funds available, whichever model it happens to be.
