Knobblies for xtx for sand riding with standard rims.

Has anyone had any experience with just changing the tires and riding the xtx on deep sand.
Wanting to know if just changing the tires to a knobbly is effective enough without going for a taller wheel and associated issues.
Not tackling the Sahara just a weekend with the lads on a beach :-).

If it's hard packed sand, like low tide, shouldn't be a problem. I've taken roadies on hard sand for 100ks or so. Just watch for soft patches. If you have to go thru soft dry sand to get to the hard stuff you can do it but be prepared for a battle. You can't beat a 21 for the soft stuff. A tip for riding soft sand...move your arse way back standing but squatting on the pegs and give it heaps of acceleration otherwise your front end will dig in. But saying that a 660 is heavy and you might be safer pushing it thru under acceleration. Good luck.
