new key

hi guys.. can i buy a new blank key an get it cut to the same obviously as my current one , an will it work ok.. or does it need to be chipped.?? i have the red key...cheers

yes you will need the red key to reprogram a spare new key or the ECU won't recognize it when you put it in the ignition barrel, the bike won't start even if the key is cut to the profile of the old key

If you get a new key from the dealer you can register it with the ECU yourself (as long as you have the master key). How to do it is all in the service manual.

has every key got the nesecary chip in it... is the black keys the same as the red one, and the fact that my key fits an starts, , i take it that s chipped to my ecu.?? cheers
