removing fuel tank - .: XT660.com

I need to pop the tank off so I can run the wires from heated grips to multi plug under the seat, how hard is it to get off? I'm presuming that when I remove the fuel pipes from the tank underneath that it's not going to piss all its fuel out, I'm more used to messing about with my 2 strokes with fuel taps, plus I think I'm a bit nervous because the bikes only 4 days old!

No, it really isn't that hard. Trickiest bit is getting your hands in to remove the fuel line and electrical connectors. You can take the bars off, tie them up, then tilt the tank up to gain better access.

The first time might take a while, but you'll get quicker with practice (and when you've got a feel for where the connectors are and how they come apart).

how did the tank removal go?

Quick question. Doesnt the fuel come off the tank after removing the fuel hose? Or is the pipe closed automatically after pulling the hose off?

Just read the official service manual and the first step is to remove the fuel from the tank with a pump

nothing comes out of the tank without the fuel pump running. there will be a little bit of fuel coming out of the tube, but nothing major.
Emptying the tank before doing it only serves to make it lighter. A full tank of fuel is pretty hard to handle especially while you need to wiggle all the plugs and hoses off. I've never bothered to do it though. But I also avoid filling up the tank before having to remove it.

OK. Good to know. With my other bikes, always needed a hose clamp to prevent the fuel to leak.

My tank is leaking from below.

It appears to be comming out from the fuel pump hole. The gasket/"O ring looks in tact but I need to try a replacement.

I want to replace the "Fuel pump Gasket" but struggling to find a part number.

Can anyone help?
