18" Rear on XT660Z

Am considering fitting an 18" Excel rim to the rear of my XT660Z Tenere (OTR).

Has anyone on here done this exercise..? Were there any swingarm clearance issues..? Was your gearing affected and if so how did you overcome it.? (larger rear sprocket..?).

Assuming that seat height is also affected...!!

Any information would be appreciated

Yes.

I fitted a complete wheel (Talon hub, Excel rim). That way you get rid of the Yamaha cush drive at the same time.

I bought directly from Talon in the UK. If you buy a complete wheel from OTR, you're paying for Talon to build it, ship it to Germany, and OTR's margin, then (in my case) ship it back to the UK. I suspect the same would apply even shipping to Aus.

Swingarm clearance is fine. Mine's a bit tight, but only because I made the chain a couple of links shorter than I should have. There's plenty of room on the adjusters for me to do this.

The 'right' gearing is 15/48 to match the stock 15/45 on a 17". I've got 15/50. I will be changing it when the current ones wear out.

It does of course affect seat height a bit.

If you do go with the complete Talon wheel, you need a disc for a KTM 690E, not an SX/EXC. The pattern is the same, but the size is wrong.

Yeah, it has a cush hub, but it's Talon's own design, as used on countless Dakar bikes.
