Avon Distanzia Or Metzeler Tourance?
Hello folks I had a question about these tires mentioned in the title above. I can get them for the same price, but never had any of those tires under my XT. Any opinions about those two? Is it right that I can fit a tubeless tire under my XT660R? I'm not riding off-road, so the tire would be needed for the asphalt. A contiescape might also be an option. Anyone?

Seriously, if you're only going to ride on ashphalt, then there are better road tyres out there in 21/17 sizes. Get a quote on Continental Trail Attack, Bridgestone Battlewing or Dunlop Trailmax TR91. There are other road only tyres too, but I have tried all these and they are all extremely good on the road.
I had Distanzia on my 1150GSA for 2k miles and wasn't impressed, but that's just my opinion and on a completely different bike. They used to be very popular on XTX five or six years ago (but a 17" front behaves very differently to a 21"). The OE Tourance on the Tenere were OK, dodgy on white lines and road imperfections, but lasted fairly well and did the job. Not tried a Conti Escape. You can fit a TL tyre no problem, but obviously with a tube! At the end of the day, you'll get a million and one opinions on tyres (all different), so you just have to bite the bullet and try a set out that takes your fancy/fits your budget and make your own assessment... |

Conti escapes for me. I think they are excellent tyres and had 3 sets and around 40,000 miles on my Transalp 650. Current set on my 660r have done about 6,000 miles and less than half worn. Grip wet or dry is plenty for me and they are relatively cheap too. Get the tube type ones and they are even fairly easy to fit
.
But with tyres everyone has an opinion and what suits one person may not be right for another. Buy what you think is right and you will be full of confidence. One report you always get with Tourances and that I have experienced is that after just a couple of thousand miles they wear flat in the middle and get twitchy and white lines or overhanging. A few extra psi in the tyres helps for a while. Sent from my iPhone with a smile |

On tarmac it is ok but not great - especially on wet roads. But it do last a long time. I've ridden two sets that lasted 20400km and 18000km. For strictly road use i would also consider the michelin anakee. I've been very happy with those on the super ten.
