Please help Gents... My Ten was playing up occasionally and didn't start on first push of the starter button. It was clicking under the seat, but engine check light was coming up and nothing happen. Most of the times after second or third push on the button she was starting ok. But not today - i end up doing push start to get back home

Battery seems to be ok, i haven't got a tester, but light's, horn, and everything works ok. When i get back home i have connect battery to my car and try to jump start, but this didn't work, and i still had small click and engine check light was coming up and flash... So i have disconnect the cables and... bike start without any problems (!!!) i have try several times and everything was ok.

Is this sound to you like famous regulator issue?? i don't think it's a battery?

Doesn't sound like the reg/rec issue, but don't rule anything out yet.

What error code is the flashing engine warning light showing with the ignition on? Count the long flashes and short flashes - the long ones equal the tens and the short ones the units. The sequence then repeats.

For example: _ _ . . _ _ . . _ _ . . is a code 22

If you can identify the error code it should help get to the bottom of things...

I think you should check the battery again and be 100 % sure it isnt the problem. It takes more Power to turn an engine that it does to light some lightbulbs.

Had the same problem with another bike - not the Ten - but its worth checking out the battery first before anything else.

It was one long and two short... what this would mean?

Just research and find out it's crank shaft sensor (???)
Strange. Very strange.

That sounds about right. I had an old NX650 that showed the same erratic starting issue and it turned out to be a dicky crank sensor/pulse generator. Trouble was in the old days it took ages to find the problem - thankfully now FI bikes tell you!

Ok, i have taken the tank out, and checked all connections, including crankshaft sensor socket - nothing obvious. No damage to wires as well.
Earth cable connections all good. Bike starts normal at the moment, if she will still play around it will mean that sensor is faulty as connections are ok.
Is it difficult to replace this sensor? Any special tools needed?

It is quite easy to get at and a cheap part to replace.

You will need to remove the alternator cover on the left hand side of the engine. You will immediately see the sensor. It is held in place by two bolts. The bolts can become loose causing erratic readings, so check that first. Also the sensor head can get fouled up, so check that too. Otherwise replace it.

Before you remove the cover, you can check the resistance at the two pin connector if you follow the wiring up from the casing. I don't know off hand what it should be though. I'll see if I can look it up for you?

The crankshaft position sensor resistance you are looking for is 192-288 Ohms between the blue/yellow and green/white wires at the 2-way connector block.

It is probably worth checking the resistance value when it is starting and running OK and make a note of it. Then check it again when the bike fails to start and the 12 error code is showing up. (Measure it with the ignition switched off though)
