XTR fork spring upgrade?

Hi chaps,

I've done the rear shock on my XTR and now it's showing up the short fall on the front.

How can I get more from the stock forks? The bike is used both on and off road. What is currently the preferred setup? My thoughts are preload adjusters, progressive springs, ohlins linear springs.

The bike isn't worth much so don't fancy spending huge amounts on the front end.
