RST Adventure Textile Kit Review

Before I was looking for water proof kit for traveling and I was trying to skimp and save by going for an over suit.

Based on the review here;
http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=19077

I went ahead and ordered the kit. There was a mention of 100 million zips and in this review you'll see what's what. Once you get used to what goes where all is well.

Thanks to Gas Up Lets Go for his review.

Now after about 7 months (and 9000kms)I can now write a review to show others my experience. I've never bought the high end stuff such as KLIM etc as I'm a cheapskate so I can't comment on whether my kit is better or not.

What you see in my review is my experience in usage in both high and low temps along with rain and snow.

If anything is crap I'll tell it as it is and I'm not afraid to say I'm wrong, learn from it and move on....(read my signature line lol)

There are two colours available..black/grey and a BMW telly-tubbie-sand-colour type effect..

First......initially this is what the kit looks like(without any liners,ie,summer riding).....jacket first.....all vents closed and with the integrated 'camel back' water pack removed. You'll notice a lot of closed zips...they're there for a reason..all will become apparent

The jacket material is Teflon coated to at least make it shower proof. There's removable foam elbows, shoulders and back protection which IMO is minimal...CE approved what ever that means really.... whoop dee do...at least it's something.

They'd have done better IMO by offering harder plastic and foam armour. My other enduro type jacket has this and I feel better protected when wearing it....you know the same as when you're riding enduros with full armour. You can see the back of the jacket is lower than the front.

You can see also that there's adjustable waist straps which work greatly. Really good to keep the jacket snug, tight and free from any wind flapping in and around you. The adjustability can be seen when it comes to the arms also. You can see adjustable clips to tighten the jacket arms around you to find a comfortable fit and velcro to close the wrists to your suiting.

The neckline is a very soft comfortable material which is closed by velcro once zipped up. There's also an excellent, very soft neck buff supplied, which of course I've lost....ho hum.

The front pockets are waterproof and closed by velcro and poppers.......the popper clips are different from the norm as they are of a circular type surrounding a centre clip pin.....the norm is a full button to clip home with a 'click'...these RST ones are harder to close with gloves on,but are just fine with fingertips.

Once you get used with them you can live with them. If they used the usual clicker buttons all would be well.....or maybe not.... as sometimes those harder to click home buttons require a good fiddle to close them home fully!!!...I don't really care I guess.

More about the camel back later....

First thing I'd mention is that there's a removable bum bag, which I've never had the need to remove and use. It's a great idea if one would find oneself walking around a city after booking into an hotel etc. Handy for storing pruk if need be. Not bulky at all and you never would know it's there.

[IMG] [/IMG]

It's zipped and clipped on to the jacket and has a velcro flap.

It has it's own waist belt which is stashed inside the actual bum bag.

[IMG] [/IMG]

So...for summer riding...we look at what zips we're going to open. You can see how well sealed the zips are against the elements(top front pocket zip).

Velro to close top pocket flap. Note the zip on the right hand side of image.

[IMG] [/IMG]

Zip pocket open.....and undo velcro at bottom of the pocket.

[IMG] [/IMG]

Pull zip fully down and you'll have a flap of material ready to disconnect....

[IMG] [/IMG]

You'll roll this flap the way one rolls a sheet of paper and stash it over to where the zip is(on the RHS was mentioned before)...it'll stash into a hidden pocket as it were.

[IMG] [/IMG]

This hidden pocket can be closed with a zip leaving a mesh rectangle the same size as the pocket which was there before to allow airflow venting. A clever idea.

[IMG] [/IMG]

Both front vents open.

[IMG] [/IMG]

Top front zips also open to provide airflow....

[IMG] [/IMG]

The sleeves also have venting along with the adjustment and velcro closing at the cuff.

Part 2 is here....
