Buying Road tax?
Right, for the life of me I can't find my MOT test certificate.
So if I go online and buy my road tax for the ten, and get it posted to me, it won't be here in time for the lakes more than likely. WIll i still be covered to ride my bike allthough I am not showing a valid tax disc as long as I have paid for one and its on the way? Cheers Chris

You'll be fine. Don't panic!
It has never taken more than 4/5 days for me to receive a tax disc in the post after buying online. If you do it now, you will have it well before the Lakes meet. |

Blimey Chris.... how long do you think it takes!
For what it's worth, you don't necessarily need your certificate at the Post Office. They can check if they want to, I've taxed a car without it before at our local PO. But Pleiades is bang on, it only takes a few days for it to come through the post if you do it on-line. If you did it today (Friday) it will be with you Tuesday or Wednesday next week. As long as you do it before the end of the month (and you currently have RFL) you have 7 days grace in any case to allow for it to arrive. You don't get any grace if you tax it after the month starts.

Yea I know it only takes 4/5 days but pay day aint until begining of next month. Funny thing is anyway after popping this message in I all of a sudden remembered where it was haha
How much is it anyway for 6month and a year on a ten? Something along the lines of 40 and 70 or is that wishfull thinking?

Yeah, it's about 70 for the full year now.
Isn't it only about a week since you got the MOT? How'd you manage to lose it that quick? In theory, you shouldn't ever need it now, even for the Post Office, because it's all computermerised. The certificate is more or less just for your own records now. I've not actually tried getting tax at a Post Office without one though.

Technically never lost it. I had put it in one of my motorcycle jacket pockets that I never use and forgot about it. Even after going through the pockets in my jacket several times I couldnt find it.
Eventually found it in the secret little pocket. DOH!

Chris as the others have said do not panic.
Apply for your disc when you get paid and get a printout of the confirmation off the computer to carry with you for your own peace of mind. Again as the others have said its all computerised now, if you get stopped the cops will know all of your bike details anyhow. For your information I do not even display a tax disc, it's in my wallet. I haven't been stopped, but if i was I'd just say that someone pinched the disc and holder, how can they prove otherwise? The important thing is that they can check on the 'system' and see that I do have valid road tax. Steve PS I'm going down to Wetton for a few beers tonight, camp behind the pub or if it's full in the farmers field around the corner (Its my birthday bash, but don't tell anyone!)

Hi all,
just a couple of details here. You will have to display a valid tax disc else you will commit an offence. The disc in the pocket is not exempt. And you have 5 days grace to allow for the new disk in the post but you must still have the old disk displayed. If any police person can be bothered to fine you is another question. I was stopped when I lost one without realizing and they were happy to just check and make me aware of the rules. https://www.askthe.police.uk/content/Q665.htm Rob |
