First fatality of the year...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cumbria-21666557

The weather has been rather nice up here over the last couple of weeks. Dry roads, clear skies, not much traffic...

I was out at the weekend and there wasn't many bikes considering the weather. I never thought I'd see a fatal so soon in the year.

Ride safe guys.

There's very little in that report, so we have no idea how the accident was caused, but it's possible that this was someone's first ride of the year after taking the bike out of winter storage. (Fine weather, fast road, single-vehicle accident ...) If so, it's a reminder to those who lay their bikes up over winter to be a bit careful on the first few rides until you get your skills sharp again. I'm not suggesting that is what happened here, but the point is worth remembering.

A great shame, however it happened, and my thoughts are with the guy's family.

True,

The local rag claims it was a GSXR, and the road is notorious for fatalities being very wide and mostly straight (I know a wide straight road and fatalities aren't usually in the same sentence).

Yeah maybe the guy`s first ride out of the year, who knows. Thoughts are with his family.

The roads are mainly dry at the moment apart from run-off from the fields but many are in shocking condition, pot holes and a built up of salt/grit tractor muck etc make then quite dangerous to ride.
