No light, just a flashing gauge and the F-trip starts. I've got 40 miles out of mine so far on F-trip. No pushed it much further than that so far, but I think that the reserve amount is approx 1 gallon.

I think it was 6.8L. I normally ride ca. 130km on reserve. The max I had to fill up was 24.6L.

I've taken the bike to 70mls on the f-trip,, then I chickened out and filled up, I recall that there was still a few litres left though.

The Tenere fuel gauge was a black op by BMW, who wanted to try and confuse the hell out of Tenere owners thus making their own bike appear superior. Never trust your fuel gauge, it's evil and it lies....

Too true. Mine used to be predictable, but now it seems to be overly pessimistic. Still gets better than 20km/l with panniers on in general use, but the bars plunge towards reserve earlier. Sigh. When will I ever learn that Italian (European?) bikes are a menace to the mind.

heres how mine works
when it starts flashing it starts counting up how many miles on reserve
if i fill it then it takes around 15 litres ..leaving 7

call it 6
ive had 78 mile counted and it still only took 20 litres
now this will depend on how you ride but if you figure your av mpg
you will have a idea how far that 6litres or more will take you

on F-Trip ive had mine to about 42 miles then i passed a garage so filled up, but i was amazed how much was still left in the tank - i could of easily done 30 miles more....which is nice to know but i tend not to go over 40 miles on F-Trip...play it safe

Just been looking through, on old threads, and also been checking out the fuel consumption of mine. I thought there was lots of stories of everyone getting 60 plus mpg.... I must be giving it too much !!! The best Ive had on 3 tanks lately is 47 mpg. The fuel guage has flashed at around 160 ish miles and at 180ish Ive filled up mainly due to having more than 40/50 mile to home and Ive fitted in between 17 and 18 lits.
I always thought Id read 300 miles is easily acievable on a tank but Im guessing with my riding 230 is my max
