From Melba!

Alain from Melbourne, land of Oz - expat from Canada via Oregon.

Got promoted from carbies to EFI: with my old KLR650 (well farkled I must say) in the hands of Australian thieves, I decided to splurge and get a 2010 Tenere. So far so good, I like the fuel sipping part, and it is dam comfy for a 6' 4" dude.

I was familiar with the Rotax engines from a previous Beamer: essentially, nothing to do. I suspect the Ten is in the same realm: keep the fluids happy and the odd valve check?

I mostly commute, but am never shy of a path of china heads or a river crossing. The bike is heavy for steep terrain, and I find it lacks torque, at least when I try to swiftly pass a slow car in town. So any advice for protection/power while exposed to dirt will be appreciated.

Welcome mate.

All I can say is fit a fuel mod + the DNA filters & you will have plenty more HP & Torque.

Shalom!

Glad to see another happy new owner!

I'm of the same stature and have found that with handlebar risers and the lower SW Motech pegs, I'm just about as comfy on this bike as I was on my KTM Super Enduro, (which was a much bigger bike... and a LOT less reliable!)

Enjoy the ride!

Question then of DNA:

- I have a circular foam filter in there, no snorkle
- Can't afford stage three
- What is stage 1?
- Will stage 2 work in heavy sand conditions?
- If I go stage 2, do I need to replace the foam with the original paper?

Welcome Alain.

As Kev suggests sorting out the fuelling will help alot with torque, but perhaps more significantly broaden the useable spread of power on the Tenere, making a big difference to tractability (which is noticeable in the urban envirnoment). Pre-fuel mod, my Z would struggle to pull cleanly below 3K rpm and run out of puff above 6K. It will now happily spin round from 2K to redline. If you are worried about filtration then stick with foam, but even without changing filters you will notice a big difference in flexibilty with a fuelling device.
