well I got it.
Picked up a march 2012 xt660z. It has heated grips, xt1200 front pegs, a smaller rear light, has had the snorkel removed and ais mods done and the replacement breathrr arrangemenyt.
I've grafted s rack and ally top box from my dead capinord rally raid onto it and I'm waiting for the touratech pannier frames to mount the panniers from same. Took a ride from glasgow to st andrewd and back, , it's fast enough for me but the seat needs a fleece for sure. However, the headliht is serously ****e. Would better bulbs help or would I be ss well gettiing vsome spots? |

Regarding the headlight, do what I do. Don't ride at night. Fortunately I have another bike for that purpose. Also a Yamaha but one with a half decent headlight.

Nice one. Enjoy the new ride.
The problem with the Tenere's headlight is the basic reflector design - it's crap! You'll help a bit with better bulbs, but they won't fix the cause. You can wire the dip to stay on with main, but that only helps with main beam for a large increase on the charging load. HIDs just spray light out in all directions and annoy other road users. Spot lights are a bit hit and miss; a pair of 55W halogens leave marginal spare capacity in an already challenged charging system, and the LED offerings are variable to say the least, some good, some rubbish, some cheap, some bloody expensive! You could just eat a shed load of carrots! |
