OEM Bash 'plate'

I popped in to my friendly mechanic today, just for a chat, first time since buying my Tenere. They suggested drilling a lot of small [e.g. 5mm] holes in the plastic bash 'plate' to help with engine cooling.

Ever heard that this is necessary / good idea??

Thanks

Jon
