Security Recommendations
Hi all,
I'm hoping to find out what type of security devices some of you guys use? I searched but the only thread I could see relevant was a few yrs ago, and trailed off into a discussion about angelina jolie. I am getting my XT in the next week and I want to have all security in place when I bring it home. ![]() I live in a terraced rented house, so I have no access to back garden and cant get permission to install a ground anchor. So I got myself one of these http://www.groundbolt.co.uk/Motorcycles.html and sledge-hammered it into the soil in the driveway. Its not that secure but its a start. I've been looking into maybe getting a Xena Disc lock, but haven't figured out which model will fit the XT, as I think its a U.S company and they don't list the XT on their fitment chart. Any recommendations on what you guys have? Disc Lock Alarms, Chains, Make-Shift Ground Anchors etc... Thanks |

Almax chains. I've got a pair of Series IV
They're RIDICULOUSLY big and impossible to crop (without HUGE noise) http://www.almax-security-chains.co.uk/ http://www.almax-security-chains.co....t=More+Details

Are they realistic for taking on the bike with you if your out and about, parking up somewhere? Or are they way too heavy? They say the series III is aimed at being more mobile I think. |

The series IV is impossibly heavy mate. I can just about carry the 2.0m one I have I rekon it weighs 20kg+

I use a Abus Granite Extreme Chain Plus 59. It is a compromise of what is easy to take a long compared to the big Almax ones.
If possible i lock it it to some fixed object in the street. On the other wheel i use an Abus Detecto 7000 RS1 Louis edition. The alarm is mostly so i won't forget to unlock it .... Locking both wheels just make it a bit more difficult ... I've had two stainless xena disc locks and they didn't impress me in quality. I worn them both out :-( One of them with a small pin (6-8mm ?) The pin mechanism actually broke during a greenlane ride on my super tenere when i had just locked it to the passenger footpeg....

Is the Abus Detecto 7000 ever over sensitive? Basically, does it ever cry wolf? Cheers |

I've got an xena bullet u lock and have had nothing but trouble with it. Very poor quality. But it's relatively mobile.

No its sensor looks at its orientation so does not react to a Harley with loud pipes going buy. But it is a tad bit difficult to unlock yourself without setting it off. You will have to unlock it without turning it in any direction ... Or maybe it is just me that is a bit clumsy. It definitely works much better than the Xena ones i had but is also more expensive.
