from an xt660x to a gsx 1400.

Thinking of trading the x,after researching the net for a new bike, i have come to the conclusion that the only bikes that excite me beyond the X, is the retro bikes, and have found a good priced gsx 1400, I have ridden bikes most of my life, mainly 250 singles to the xt being the biggest so far,but have the urge for a big road bike,my question is, would this be a to much of a jump in power,I know these machines are beasts but i have an itch that must be scratched,so to speak.

you are the only one who can answer that....
But if you feel so unsure you need to ask ?...

but in the end the bike is only as fast as you
want it to be.. Just don't give it big hand fulls
to start.. you will be fine...
the 1400 has a lot of power,, but its a very flat
power delivery..No big surges etc..

Thanks for the reply, suppose it not the power that Im concerned with ,as the speed limit around adelaide is 60km,the 400cc i can see myself using ,its the other 1000cc that baffles me what to do with.

The biggest things you will notice is the weight & smoothness.

Hey I have a Yamaha XJR1300 which is wonderful for cruising, sure it has 1300cc but a very smooth and gradual power delivery similar to the Suzuki I guess, so it is a very easy bike to ride and totally unscary!! Sure the weight takes some getting used to but just take it easy and you will have fun!! If I were you I would keep the XT if you can, as the XT is wonderful for town and shorter trips and fun and you will regret if you sell it.......

Would definitely keep the XT for commuting & the big b****r in the garage for weekend cruising! I recently saw a 4 year old B King, very low mileage, excellent condition, for under 6k at my local dealer - the thought of giving it full beans sounds scarily addictive! Sadly, kids/wife/mortgage exclude justification for 2 bikes. At the moment.....

I just got my 3 bikes insured by Bennets and they gave me a kind of rider policy so all 3 bikes are covered for me to ride, and the total cost was less than 300 quid (XJR and XT660X and Giggle). So maybe not as expensive as you may think??? Ok yes true I am an old er mature rider and that helps.....

Talking

I've got 52 plate GSX 1400, it's great for those long lazy days out with the misses, very comfortable and very easy to ride hard or slow, just put her in sixth and she pull , love it, but to be honest, my X is my weapon of choice, it goes ok, much slower but the X has more smile per mile,
Mpg is around 56 for the X
Mpg for the 1400 is around 38
Plus the 1400 eat the chain and the back tyre,

But I will say, both bikes are keepers, can't see.myself even selling them.

Check out gsx1400.org

Very friendly lot.

Hey like Mudrock I am lucky enough to have the XTX for daily commuting and fun and then the XJR for longer trips away (plus I have a track R1 for speed on track). Its wonderful to have several bikes but I think that if I could only have one I think I would keep the XT for the smiles per minute factor. Enjoy!!!
