new tenere owner in north qld australia

Hi guys. First off, fantastic site.
Helped me make a decision as to what bike to buy after being away from two wheel travelling for way too long.
Bought a brand new straight out the crate black 2011 z Tenere 9 days ago and have not been able to stay off it (even kitted up at past midnight to get back out for another spin at times!) What an awesome machine!
I need to plant my feet a little more so looking at some lowering links and some suspension mods, as well as experimenting (with a few ideas ive found on this site) with ways to reduce some turbulence coming up thru the forks and over/around the windshield. On the lookout for some accessories (engine guards, alum bash plate etc) so anyone that could point a guy in the right direction (read: cheap!) would earn themselves a cold one!
Any Tenere owners up this way, say Townsville and up? Im always up for a ride to new places. And this country is so vast.
Once again guys, a great site with a wealth of information and the passion you guys have for your bikes really shows through. I look forward to being a part of this community.
Dion

Hello and welcome Dion

Glad to see you made the correct colour choice!

I'd get used to it a bit more before deciding on lowering links, many of our shorter brethren seem to get on fine with the standard ride height. Same with accessories and bling, it's taken me four years to get mine how I want it and some of the stuff I rushed into early on I've kind of regretted, should have waited - but that's the benefit of hindsight! Enjoy!

Gday mate, and congrats on an excellent choice. I bought mine new as well, about 5 or 6 weeks ago (also black) and I absolutely love it.

I was also a bit wary of the high seat height (I'm a bit of a short-arse), but I'm quite comfy now. Couple close calls, but haven't dropped it yet. I've just got to think when on uneven ground a bit more.

I was also fully primed to get all bombed up with extras straight off the bat, but now I'm glad I listened to someone here who told me to wait. Have fitted the bash plate & centre stand though, & I'm waiting for the hand guards to come from Yamaha (all free extras due to the Yamaha promotion).

Looking forward to touring extensively once she's all set up. If you find yourself riding down this way (central coast north of Sydney), then give us a yell. There's some mad places to explore on bikes like ours.

Gday ScottyD,
yeh mate some good advice to be had on site. great resource. happy with your deal on the bike? took the topbox as my yamaha freebie (found out afterwards ive got a bit of a wait till it arrives, no drama). the barkbusters i got thrown in would have come in handy, layed it over in some clay and got a bent clutch lever as well as a few scratches over the weekend(lol!..nothing stays new forever!). same goes if you get up this way, get in touch, its an explorers paradise.
any issues with the bike youre looking to iron out?

Hey Gandiva,

yeah, I'm stoked with my deal ($14,000 with a new Shoei Hornet for $350, plus the extras thrown in ). I'd be interested in hearing what you reckon of the top box. I almost went for that as well, but now I'm keen on a soft luggage set up (fitted a flat aluminium rack instead). The wait for the handguards is starting to annoy me. I'm starting to get out on the tracks a bit now, and they would really be handy (as you've already found out ). As I said, I haven't dropped it yet, but its only a matter of time.

When my touring range extends up your way (and one day it will), then I'll definitely give you a yell. Nothing beats local knowledge. Please make sure you do the same if down here.

No issues with the bike for me so far. I couldn't be happier.

Cheers dude.
