Thumbs down Fmx 650

So i just spent a week in Greece with the family, Me and the old man decided to take some bikes out for a few days. The only big single available was a Honda FMX 650, so i took that and my dad took an old shabby Suzuki DR200.

I know a lot of people talk about the XT's being a budget bike, but the FMX took the word 'budget' to a whole new level. Considering the style of bike is so similar to the XTX, i couldn't believe how different it was. The ride was awful, seating position was terrible, arse end was twitchy in even the slightest bend, and a lack of power for the size of engine! All this said, it did the job and got me around the island and through some pretty rough tracks on the island, but i certainly wouldn't buy one!

Think i should have chosen the DR200!

Anyone else ridden the FMX?

I have seen one... they don't look to flash.. based on a older XR650L by the looks of them...
They should have used the XR650R as the base bike...

The xtx is a much better looking bike the FMX 650 looks old to the xtx and the power is poor to the xtx, As you say mate it did the job.

Although they share the same motor with the XR650L, they are more closely related to the NX650 Dominator. When the Dominator was pensioned off in 2000 it had 45bhp, it came back briefly as the FX650 Vigor, looked horrible and only had 37hp to meet emissions regs - nobody bought it. Honda then dressed it up in fancy clothes, gave it cheap and nasty USD forks and SM wheels and called it the FMX650, still with a lowly 37hp, and that's at the crank - expect a mere 30 at the rear wheel! (That'll be why it felt slow for a 650.)

I had an NX650, and it was a good bike in its day - but that was 1989! The FMX is 80s tech, detuned for the 21st century. They unsurprisingly never sold many of them (you can see why if you've ridden one) and the plug was pulled.

I was one of those rare individuals who owned a Vigor (really odd name!). I came by it in a slightly unusual way, but it was my two wheeled transport for a while and I did a few half decent trips on it.

I even did a track day on it
