My Ten's first 700km.

After I refueled the Ten twice I am a bit disappointed with its consumption. I never gave it the sticks, in fact took it very cautiously. First tank was 30% in town and the rest open roads @ +/- 4000 rpm. I got 18.93 km/l (44.5 mpg).

I thought that was a bit rough so on Saturday did a 300km round trip - mainly highway at 4000 - 4500 rpm. The result was still disappointing @ 20.6 km/l (48.45 mpg).

I spoke to the dealer this morning, he said it could be that the Ten is running a bit rich, that it will be checked on the 1000km service, scheduled for next week. Even though I know the motor is still stiff, I expected at least 20 km/l.

And then the wind buffeting... bad to the point where I thought it will be better to remove the screen. I searched on the net for replacement screens, found a 8 cm higher screen at OTR Germany, which I ordered. Hope that will improve the ride comfort. Afterwards I saw the same product advertised in the UK by Skidmarx. Anybody tried it?

Enough moaned. For the rest I'm impressed. Power is more than enough, as I said in my newbie intro post, the Ten handles cross-winds better than what I expected. I suppose this may get worse with the taller screen.

Cheers!

Hi and welcome to the forums...

IMO I'd leave your engine to run in before coming up with a final consumption figures....

Mine now has 8000kms and I get an average of about 4.5L/100kms(worst has been 5.9)

For info I use www.fuelly.com to keep track of my consumption.

I wouldn't worry too much about it at present.

@Ohlins thanks for the welcome, reply. I can only hope that the consumption gets close to what you're getting!

Hi,
my consumption is also around 4,5l/100. I get nearly 450 km out of one tank.

Regards
Marcus

Dude, the tolerances in your brand spanking new engine are still very tight and polishing in. Brand new cats in your pipes and an ecu that is still adjusting. Give the beast a chance to settle and you will see and indeed feel the difference. Above all though, try not to worry/ponder your new machine too much, just ride, enjoy and learn her ways.

I checked how thirsty my ten is two weeks ago and was encouraged to see 64.8mpg!! It had 14,800 miles on the clock at the time. I think that, as others have said, just give the engine a little time, good economy will be yours soon.
